The dirham weakens versus the euro: €1,000 = 11,162 MAD (vs 10,998 MAD a week ago, +164 MAD). On €5,000 the gap reaches 820 MAD. Since 27 Aug the rate rose 386 MAD in six weeks. Forex reserves hit 515.7 bn MAD, +1.8 % weekly, +23 % yearly.

The dirham loses ground against the euro

For 1,000 euros, the equivalent now stands at 11,162 dirhams. A week earlier, the same amount was worth only 10,998 dirhams. The gap has widened by 164 dirhams in the space of a few days.

On a transfer of 5,000 euros, the difference rises to an additional 820 dirhams. Since 27 August, the rise has been continuous: in six weeks, 1,000 euros have gained 386 dirhams, rising from 10,776 to 11,162 dirhams.

This trend directly benefits Moroccans residing abroad who convert euros into dirhams. Conversely, it pushes up the cost of purchases in euros made from Morocco.

Meanwhile, official foreign exchange reserves reached 515.7 billion dirhams on 2 October. They are up 1.8% on a week and 23% on a year.
