How does the Italy-Morocco tax convention work?
The convention of June 7, 1972 provides: (1) Moroccan real estate income is taxable only in Morocco; (2) Italian-source pensions are taxable only in Italy; (3) dividends paid by a Moroccan company to an Italian resident are subject to a 15% withholding in Morocco. Italy then grants a tax credit on these withholdings.
How do I send money to Morocco from Italy at the best rate?
Wise is the most competitive in April 2026 for EUR-MAD transfers (fees ~0.5%). In Italy, PostePay/Poste Italiane offer Western Union transfers at their offices, but fees are high (€3-6 + exchange margin). MoneyGram is available at Lottomatica and tobacconists. Our calculator compares in real time.
Does my permesso di soggiorno affect my procedures in Morocco?
No. The permesso di soggiorno is an Italian document with no legal value in Morocco. For Moroccan notarial acts, you present your valid Moroccan CIN (national identity card). For some acts, a valid Moroccan passport may be requested. Your administrative status in Italy is not requested.
Can I combine an Italian INPS pension and a Moroccan CNSS pension?
Yes, both pensions are fully combinable. The INPS pension is taxable in Italy under the 1972 convention. The Moroccan CNSS can be received directly in Italy via international transfer, or deposited in a Moroccan account. Since May 2025, the CNSS threshold is 1,320 minimum days contributed.
How do I handle a Moroccan inheritance from Italy?
The succession of assets in Morocco is governed by the Moudawana, even if the deceased lived in Italy. A Moroccan notary or adoul is required for the inheritance deed. The legal deadline for MRE is 1 year. A power of attorney legalized by the Moroccan consulate in Italy is sufficient to appoint a representative.
