❓ Frequently asked questions
I worked 10 years as a civil servant in Morocco before emigrating: can I get a CMR pension?+
Yes, absolutely. CMR rights accrued do not lapse with emigration. With 10 years of service (120 months of contributions), you are entitled to a proportional pension calculated as: 2.5% x 10 x your last base salary. For example, with a base salary of 5,000 MAD, your pension would be 1,250 MAD per month. As this is below the guaranteed minimum of 1,500 MAD, you will receive at least 1,500 MAD per month. The pension is requested once you reach the legal departure age (60 or 63 depending on your date of permanent appointment).
How can I access my CMR career record from abroad?+
You can access your CMR career record directly online at cmr.gov.ma. Create an account with your civil servant registration number (which appears on your old pay slips) and your Moroccan national ID number. The personal account gives you access to the career record, pension estimate, and application forms. If you cannot find your registration number, contact the human resources department of your former ministry or CMR directly by email.
Can my CMR pension be paid directly to my French bank account?+
Yes, CMR can transfer your pension directly to your foreign bank account in France, Belgium, etc. You must provide your IBAN and BIC/SWIFT when filing the retirement application. The pension is paid in Moroccan dirhams and converted at the current rate by your French bank. Exchange and transfer fees apply, typically 0.5% to 2% depending on the bank. To minimize these fees, consider an MDM account at a Moroccan bank or using Wise for the conversion.
How is a CMR pension actually calculated?+
The formula is: Pension = 2.5% x years of service x last monthly base salary. Concrete examples: 20 years of service + salary 4,000 MAD = 0.025 x 20 x 4,000 = 2,000 MAD per month. 35 years + salary 8,000 MAD = 0.025 x 35 x 8,000 = 7,000 MAD per month. 40 years + salary 10,000 MAD = 0.025 x 40 x 10,000 = 10,000 MAD per month (100% cap). The guaranteed minimum is 1,500 MAD per month and the maximum is the full base salary after 40 years of service.
Can the CMR pension be combined with a French pension?+
Yes, the CMR pension and the French pension are fully combinable. There is no legal prohibition on combining both. Each pension is calculated independently according to each fund''s rules. The 1979 Franco-Moroccan social security convention concerns the totalization of periods to open rights, but does not prevent combining pensions. For tax purposes, the CMR pension is taxable in Morocco and the French pension in France, under the 1970 bilateral tax convention.
What happens if a civil servant dies before retirement?+
If a civil servant dies before reaching retirement age, their dependants (spouse and minor children) are entitled to a survivor pension. The surviving spouse generally receives 50% of the pension the civil servant would have been entitled to. Orphans receive an additional share. This survivor pension is paid by CMR to dependants even if they reside abroad, upon presentation of civil status documents and a life certificate.
Can you retire before age 60 with CMR?+
As a general rule, early retirement before age 60 is not possible for civil servants under the RPC scheme, except for certain categories such as nurses and teachers under specific conditions. Military and security forces can retire at 55. There is a possibility of early cessation of activity at 55 for civil servants under certain seniority conditions, but with a reduced pension. Contact CMR or your former ministry for your specific situation.
