Travelling to Morocco with a wheelchair user or a person with reduced mobility is a right, and assistance is free. Our complete guide: who to notify, the 48-hour rule, ferry, plane, wheelchair and medication.

Every summer, thousands of Moroccan families living abroad head to Morocco with a relative who is a wheelchair user or has reduced mobility. And every time, the same worry comes back: how will boarding go, the help to get on and off the ship or plane, the welcome on arrival.

Good news: travelling to Morocco with a disabled relative is not only possible, it is protected by law. Assistance is a right, it is free, and no one can be refused because of a disability. We have gathered everything you need to know in a complete guide.

The rule that changes everything: notify 48 hours ahead

This is the single decisive move. By flagging the need for assistance at least 48 hours before departure, you trigger everything: a dedicated team at the port or airport, priority boarding, the right equipment, and help to get on and off even when the person cannot use stairs.

By ferry or by plane, your rights are protected

At sea, departing from Algeciras or Tarifa, EU law guarantees free assistance at the port and on board. Most ships on the Tanger Med route have lifts, ramps and wheelchair spaces.

In the air, the law forbids refusing boarding because of a disability. Royal Air Maroc has a dedicated service and carries up to two mobility aids free of charge.

Everything is in the guide

Which mode of transport to choose, who to notify and how, which documents to gather, how to handle an electric wheelchair and its batteries, how to prepare medication, and above all how not to forget to organise the return: our guide details every step, both ways.

Prepared calmly, this trip goes well. The key is to plan ahead and know your rights.
