Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan on Saturday launched operations at the first container terminal of the Nador West Med port, in the province of Nador. This marks the first stage in bringing this industrial and port complex into service.
On this occasion, Diego Aponte, CEO of the MSC/Terminal Investment Limited group, a global player in maritime transport and logistics, said that this infrastructure constitutes a "major project" for consolidating Morocco's position as a maritime hub.
He also noted that the start of operations represents an important milestone for his group, which he presents as the world's leading shipping line in container transport.
The East Terminal has been awarded to a consortium formed by Marsa Maroc and Terminal Investment Limited, an MSC subsidiary. Marsa Maroc is presented as the fourth-largest container terminal operator in Africa.
In terms of capacity, the facility will be able to receive container ships of the 24,000 TEU class, among the largest cargo ships in the world.
