Shooting in Trappes and La Verrière: Interior Minister describes it as a 'terrorist crime'
'It is clearly a terrorist crime, an extremely serious act.' Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said this on Friday during a visit to Trappes, in the Yvelines. According to him, a man 'shot one person dead and wounded five others' in Trappes and La Verrière.
The minister also described the response of the security forces. Five officers from the anti-crime squad (Bac) 'arrested the perpetrator very quickly'. He believes they have 'very probably' stopped this 'deadly rampage in progress', while adding that the investigation will confirm or refute this.
Still according to Laurent Nuñez, the rampage 'lasted a good quarter of an hour' and 'claimed many victims'. These statements were reported to the press on the scene.
The toll changed as the day went on. A related article, published earlier that same day, reported one dead and four injured. The AFP dispatch reproducing the minister's remarks, dated 23 October 2026 at 14:14, reports one dead and five injured.
