Maersk reorganises its links with Tanger Med from November

The Maersk group is undertaking a redesign of several services in its Gemini network linking Asia to the Mediterranean. These changes will come into effect progressively from 15 November 2026 and notably concern the port of Tanger Med.

The main novelty is the launch of a line named AE18. It will provide a connection between several Asian ports and the western Mediterranean with a rotation comprising Shanghai, Xiamen, Tanjung Pelepas, Algeciras and Tanger, before returning to Xiamen via Algeciras.

This new service will enable Tanger Med to retain its place in the Gemini network, despite the removal of certain calls on other lines. Indeed, Tanger will be replaced by Rotterdam on the AE2 service in the westbound direction, while the AE11 line will now favour Port Said in Egypt.

For Moroccan foreign‑trade operators, particularly importers, exporters and freight forwarders, this reorganisation will require an adjustment of shipping schedules and maritime connections.
