Marhaba 2026 frequently asked questions
When does Operation Marhaba 2026 start and end?
Operation Marhaba 2026 runs from June 5 to September 15, more than three months. The 26 reception sites (Moroccan ports, European ports, airports) operate 24/7 throughout the period.
What is the best time to cross without peak traffic?
The quietest periods are June 15-25 (before school holidays), July 15-25 (between two peaks) and after September 5 (calm return). Avoid late June to mid-July, late July to mid-August, and late August to early September.
Is a closed ticket mandatory in August 2026?
Yes. Since 2025, the fixed date and time ticket (closed ticket) is mandatory in all Moroccan and Spanish ports during August. "Open" tickets are no longer accepted. Confirm your schedule before arriving at the port.
How long can I stay in Morocco with my foreign car?
Temporary admission (AT) of a foreign vehicle lasts 180 days per calendar year (6 cumulative months). An automatic 6-month extension is granted with an unlegalized power of attorney. Beyond that, customs fines start at 1,500 MAD per day.
Do I need special insurance to drive in Morocco?
Yes. The Green Card (international insurance certificate) is mandatory. Ask your insurer for Morocco extension before leaving. If the Green Card does not cover Morocco, purchase border insurance on arrival (200 to 600 MAD depending on duration).
Which ports are the least saturated for crossing?
In 2026, Tanger Med remains under pressure (systematic scanners, +3h at peaks) but has the largest capacity. Nador (Beni Ansar) is generally smoother. Bab Sebta is under construction until spring 2026 (5-10h waits). Prefer Tanger Med or Nador in high season.
