📂 Full file: Operation Marhaba 2026: MRE guide.

Main ferry routes to Morocco

From Spain (fastest)

  • Algeciras-Tanger Med: 1h30 fast-ferry, 2h30 classic ferry. The busiest line with about 20 daily departures in high season. Operators: AML, Balearia, Trasmediterranea, Intershipping.
  • Tarifa-Tangier City: 1h. Less frequent, smaller ferry, arrival in Tangier city centre (not the industrial Tanger Med port). Operator: FRS.
  • Motril-Tanger Med/Al Hoceima: 6h-8h. Less crowded alternative. Operators: Balearia, Trasmediterranea.
  • Almeria-Nador: 6h-8h. Ideal for MRE in the Oriental region. Operators: Balearia, Trasmediterranea, GNV.
  • Barcelona-Tanger Med: 24h-32h. Long crossing with cabin. Operators: GNV, Grimaldi Lines.

From France

  • Sète-Tanger Med: 38h-44h. The only direct France-Morocco line. Operators: AML, GNV.
  • Sète-Nador: 24h-28h. Alternative for MRE in the Oriental region. Operator: GNV.
  • Marseille-Tanger Med: 38h-46h. Via La Méridionale (premium crossing).

From Italy

  • Genoa-Tanger Med: 48h-58h. Long crossing with cabin mandatory. Operator: GNV.
  • Civitavecchia-Tanger Med: 48h. Operator: Grimaldi Lines.

Summer 2026 price ranges

Prices vary by period, operator, vehicle type and how far in advance you book.

  • Algeciras-Tanger Med: EUR 30-80/person (foot passenger), EUR 150-350 (car + 2 persons)
  • Sète-Tanger Med: EUR 200-500/person with cabin, EUR 600-1,200 (car + 2 persons + cabin)
  • Barcelona-Tanger Med: EUR 150-400/person with cabin

Tip: booking in April-May for the summer can save 30 to 50% versus a June-July booking. For all Spain-Morocco lines see our complete Spain-Morocco ferry guide.

Mandatory closed ticket in August

Since 2025, the fixed date and time ticket is mandatory at all Moroccan and Spanish ports during August. Open tickets (no fixed date) are no longer accepted. Confirm your slot before arriving at the port.

This measure regulates flow at Tanger Med port, which handles more than 35% of all MRE transiting by sea.

Armas Trasmediterranea: summer 2026 reinforcement

Armas Trasmediterranea announced an exceptional dispatch for Operation Marhaba 2026 with capacity exceeding 2 million seats between Spain and Morocco. The plan covers Algeciras-Tanger Med, Motril-Nador and Almeria-Nador routes, from 15 June to 15 September.

Choosing your line: 3 quick rules

  1. Time first: take the closest line to where you are leaving from. A southern French MRE saves 30+ hours by leaving from Algeciras rather than Sète, even with the road drive.
  2. Budget first: Algeciras-Tanger Med is the cheapest line per person. Sète and Genoa cost twice as much but include cabin.
  3. Vehicle first: if you bring a fully loaded vehicle, prefer Algeciras-Tanger Med (1h30) over the very long lines that are tiring with a vehicle.

Documents to prepare before boarding

  • Valid passport (and CIN if Moroccan)
  • Vehicle registration certificate (if travelling by car)
  • International insurance (Green Card) valid for Morocco. See our car preparation for Morocco 2026 guide.
  • Customs form (filled on board or at the terminal)
  • Authorisation for minors travelling without both parents (legalised)

Most ports now have automated lanes for Moroccan biometric passports. Allow 1 to 3 hours between port arrival and boarding in high season.
