Fluidra now manufactures in Tangier and is preparing to close a site in China

The Spanish group Fluidra, a global specialist in swimming pool equipment, is now producing in Morocco. Its chief executive confirmed on 29 October that the Tangier plant has been manufacturing since the third quarter. This start-up forms part of an industrial reorganisation that also provides for the closure of a site in China.

This restructuring was outlined by Jaime Ramírez during the financial presentation on 6 May. It has three components: the consolidation of manufacturing activities in North America, the opening of the Tangier facility, and the closure of one of the group's production sites in China. From that date, Fluidra's chief executive presented Tangier as a future production centre of particular competitiveness, intended to supply international markets.

Equipment made in Tangier is therefore to be sold well beyond the Kingdom's borders. For Fluidra, the aim is to reduce its manufacturing costs and to have a more efficient network of factories, better able to meet the needs of its various markets. Nearly six months after the May announcement, the Moroccan timetable is being met.

On the Chinese side, the reorganisation is continuing, with no new announcement on the completion of the closure. The group has not, however, left the country: it has opened a new global research and development centre there, announced at the May financial presentation, even though it plans to close a factory there.

With Tangier, Fluidra joins an already substantial Spanish industrial presence in Morocco, where more than 350 companies from Spain have operations.
