Laâyoune Faculty of Medicine Signs Two Agreements with American Institutions
Two memoranda of understanding were signed on Thursday in Laâyoune between the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (FMPL), attached to Ibn Zohr University, and two American institutions. The signing took place on the sidelines of the second edition of the Moroccan-American Medical Days, which brings together doctors, professors and researchers from both countries in Laâyoune until 30 October. The agreements aim to strengthen cooperation in medical training, scientific research and patient care.
The first agreement was concluded with Celenova Fertility, represented by its medical director, Susan Nassab. Speaking to MAP, this American specialist in obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive endocrinology outlined three areas: the training and supervision of doctors and students, the development of scientific research, and the improvement of patient care. The collaboration is set to focus in particular on sharing treatment protocols and therapeutic strategies, as well as on strengthening the skills of doctors, students and residents. Susan Nassab also stressed the importance attached to fertility preservation, particularly among cancer patients, as well as to treatments and procedures relating to reproductive medicine.
The second agreement was signed with the Fetal Research Fund, represented by Professor Boris Petrikovsky. The latter, an American obstetrician-gynaecologist, presents the organisation as an international non-profit structure dedicated to research. According to him, the agreement paves the way for joint research projects between the two countries. He added that the results could be published in the Journal of Neonatal Care.
On the faculty's side, Dean Fatima Zahra Alaoui said that these partnerships with recognised American institutions will allow the establishment to benefit from specialised expertise, particularly in foetal and neonatal health. She also sees it as a contribution to advances in scientific research within the faculty and across Morocco.
